How are you today?
I am glad to be back from a month-long break, which did me good. I come back with a sense of newness and anticipation. I would like to share something I have been reflecting on a lot lately, and which I have shared in a couple of social forums. It is the prayer of Jabez, found in the book of 1 Chronicles 4:10 in the bible.
“Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!” So God granted him what he requested.
The name Jabez, meaning ‘he causes pain’, must have been a constant reminder of his destiny. BUT, Jabez wanted a different association, a different identity, and so he did something, and it led to a different destiny.
In praying that prayer, Jabez pushed the cultural and mental boundaries that would have limited him to a lifetime of viewing himself — and being viewed by everyone else— as a pain bearer.
If we want to enlarge our territory, we must push the boundaries.
Have a fabulous, boundary-pushing week ahead.
